Copse Road, Meadvale. 1960's. F. Frith & Co. Ltd.
Standing by the lamp post at the right of the picture opposite Lower Road: a dustbin. Not just any dustbin: a Pig Bin.

Household food waste was deposited in it from all local houses which didn't have a compost heap (braving the swarms of angry wasps) and weekly (I believe on Friday) the lorry came round and emptied it, It was boiled up for Pigs' Swill, and was a nice little earner, in 1950's and early '60's, for the Borough Council under its much feared / much respected Town Clerk, Mr. Heber Davies. Peter White (ex 19 Copse Road)

PS Pauline Brock, who lived at no 2 (on the right by the stripey road sign) thinks the Morris Minor was her father's. She is listed on Friends Reunited, Copse Road site.
