"Attractive twenty two year old sprinter Anne Smith, daughter of a London newspaper linotype
operator, and who teaches at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Hammersmith - is now in training
for her visit to Tokyo as a member of the British Athletics team. Anne who is to compete in the 800
metres event says she owes her success to the one and only Gordon Pirie - former world record holder
who trained her. Gordon spends a lot of his time - coaching Anne at the Pirie home in Redhill.
Included in Anne's pupils are some Japanese children - so Anne should have a chance of picking up a
little of the language before she leaves on September 27th." Keystone Press, 26th August 1964.
